The shade is fabric, gathered into crisp pleats that break the light into soft vertical bands, and the metal base comes in Gold, Black or Silver to set the mood warm or graphic. Light comes from a replaceable E12 bulb at 2700K, a genuinely warm white that flatters a table setting, and because the bulb is standard you are not throwing the lamp away when it goes. A touch control on the lamp switches it on and off, and the internal battery recharges between uses.
